The B-I-B-L-E YES THAT'S THE BOOK FOR ME

I dont know about you but one of the first songs I remember being taught in Sunday school was the BIBLE song. Now my sons are learning that song, singing it around the house. I remember my oldest son went around the house saying BI BI for the longest time. If you don't know the song or forgot the words:

"The B-I-B-L-E
Yes that's the book for me
I stand up on the word of God
The B-I-B-LE. (repeat as many times as you want, I know my sons do)

A simple but very powerful song with truth.
I believe the Bible is the inspiried word of God from the first letter to the last. I believe what the Hebrew writter says in 4:12 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penatrates even to dividing sould and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." The word of God is what matters to us as Christians. It is what we should base our oppinion on. Our beliefs. Our way of living is by standing upon the promises of God, his word. We need it. It is a must if we are to survive.
In Deuteronomy 8 Moses is telling the people not to forget God and reminds them of all the things that God has done, giving them manna from heaven to eat and then tell them that just like the bread that sustained you and gave you life the Lord says teach them that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.Vs. 3(NIV) As Christians, Christ word should dwell within us richly (Col.3:16 NIV). We are to be doers of it (James 1:22). I am glad that I can trust the word, that no matter what changes, God's word never passaway (Matthew 24:35). I am glad that I have the Bible and that others across the world are getting it printed in there language. Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then I will return." How wonderful.

I don't know about you but when I am down and I need strength, encouragment. I got to the Bible and read the Psalms and man do I feel better. I read his promies of help, refuge, stronghold and I leave strengthened. I read and I see failures of man of faith, leaders, and understand that I am not alone. And time and time again when failures, disappointments, disobedience happens and I Gods grace time and time again. In the Old and the New Testaments. God reveals himself to us in the Bible. God reveals his desire for us in the Bible. God reveals how to become a Christian, how to live as a Christian and what his will is for the church. The B-I-B-L-E, yes that's the book for me, is it for you?

Do we believe the Bible today? Really believe? Do we read it as often as we should? I know you who are ministers study and prepare sermons and classes but do you spend time in personal study? Yes, there is a difference. Do we base our oppions and beliefs from the Bible? Do we pick in choose what we want out of it? Do we argue over translations and miss the message completely? Do we encourage others to read it? Do we sit and read it with our families at home? Is it on our minds when we are at work? What is your favorit passage? What passage gives you strength, help, when you are in need? Favorite memory verses?

What do you think?

Great post, Preacher. That verse in Hebrews is one of my favorites.

I think it's easy for ministers who study the Bible all of the time to study it for the sermon or for others, without studying it for themselves.

Josh,

I totally agree.
It is easy to study for what God wants us to say to our congregations but we must study it for ourselves because I have learn that if I neglect it for myself. The study for sermons isn't what it should be too. It effects everything. Thanks for your comments.

Preacherman,

I think we need to hear more sermons on how to read and study the Bible for all that it is worth. One of my favorite passages is James 1:22 "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
I think that verse goes great with Eccl. 12:13 "Here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man."

Preacherman,

Excellent post. My daughter loves the Bible song. You are so right that it is simple yet holds a powerful truth that may don't believe today.
We must students of the word and doers.
We must read it daily.
Not only that but it must be on our hearts and minds all the time.

My favorite book is Romans.
My favorite verse is Romans 8:37 "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

Amen and Amen,

Steve, OH

Preacherman,

We taught kids that song this year at VBS. Many of the kids had never heard the song and didn't even have a Bible in their house. We gave each kid a Bible on the last day. Usually we give it to the boy or girl who brought the most visitors but changed our minds after the second day. As each child received a Bible you could tell that they were all happy to recieve such a gift. Are we happy that we have recieved such a gift? We should. We should cherish it as one of the greatest gifts next to salvation that we have been given. We are able to read God's words, promises, and will for our lives. How wonderful.

Jeff

We are discussing the Bible not the Koran or Book of Mormon.
Those books may be discussed at a later post.
Thank you.

My favorite verse is John 3:16.
It was the first verse I learned as a child.
It is everywhere but is life changing.

My favorite passage right now is Exodus 34:5-9.

John Dobbs, on Out Here Hope Remains (http://remains.blogspot.com), recently commented on a very problematic temptation for 21st century Christians. He wrote, "Are we reading more McLaren than Matthew? Are we turning the pages of Eldridge more than Ephesians? And yes, N. T. Wright is brilliant, but much less important than THE N. T. That's a silly way to say to all of us, let's keep THE BOOK open at all times."

in HIS love,
Nick

Nick,

Those are good questions that we must honestly as ministers answer. How easy it is to read others more that the word if we are not careful.
Thanks for you comments.

You need to correct the spelling in your article. A lot of errors, but the content is good.

First, the word pastor is totally misused in modern day christendom. Study the word from the Bible (not from your commentaries or seminary (cemetary) classes) and you will find that the pastor never does all the work, all the preaching, all the shepherding, etc. In fact, using "pastor" as many do shows a direct link to Roman Catholocism and how they do things. The bible teaches a plurality of elders and never The Pastor. Second, every Christian is responsible to feed him/herself daily -- not to rely on someone else to feed them. Third, mega churches, and smaller ones too, sometimes use special means to draw people in. Well, whatever you use to draw people is what you'll have to use to keep them. If you use entertainment or worship bands/worship leaders (isn't the Holy Spirit to be our worship leader and not some man or woman dancing around on stage?) or some man made scheme, it will not work. If you use the Word of God, however, you will draw those sincerely seeking for God, yearning for change and desiring to allow Him to radically modify their lives from the inside out. Fourth, people need to grow up, obey the Lord, walk in the Spirit and stop being so worldly. Satan will use whatever he can to draw us to him and away from the Lord. True believers are eternally secure in Christ, but our daily walk needs to be serious before the Lord. Stop watching so much TV; stop wasting so much time on hobbies; start sharing the gospel with your neighbours by having them over for tea, coffee or a meal. Folks: the Lord is going to soon rapture the church to meet Him in the air. Are we ready if it happened today or would we feel shame? Get back to the Bible.
