Immanuel, God With Us

A preacher told the six year old Sunday school class that they were to re-enact the story of the birth of Jesus for the congregation for him that morning. The teacher wanted them to stage it themselves based one their own made up script, so it was certainly interesting. They had three Marys, two Josephs, six shepherds, two wise guys, and one boy who want to be a cow. Another boy decided he would be the doctor who would deliver the baby. The teacher consented, so the little doctor went back behind the manger and picked up the doll, carefully wrapped him in a blanket. Then with a big smile on his face, he turned to the Marys and Josephs and said, "Congratulations, it's a God!"

Stories like this are cute to hear around Christmas.

But, the birth of Jesus is amazing because God did become human. He became Immanuel. God with us. Wow. Think about that for a moment. God with us.

I hope that we will stop and think during this Christmas time with friends and family that God is with us. Slow down and thank God for becoming Immanuel.

Where would we be if he didn't become Immanuel God with us? Is it just at Christmas that we remember Immanuel? Why? Should we remember all year? How does it help our faith as Christians knowing that he became Immanuel, God with us?

I hope you have a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.

"Slow down and thank God for becoming Immanuel."

excellent advice...once i read this a thought came to me... that perhaps there is less time spent thinking about Jesus during this time that is ment to be a celebration of His birth. and for several weeks i was thinking just the opposite...that Jesus is only thought of at Christmas. but, now i am considering that Christians think of Christ Jesus every day and there are many distractions when it comes to the made up time of celebrating the birthday and all of the gatherings that happen around this day.

slow down and think...good deal.

have a slow and thoughtful time with plenty of love and sharing with those you see.

lots of love
nancy

Amen to all you say here!

We do need to slow down, and read, think, reflect and pray- thanking God for this greatest of all gifts in becoming one of us, in his Son.

Thanks, Preacherman, for your faithful, good words in blogging to us, reminding us of the word of God which we all so deeply need each and every day.

Blessings on you and yours this Christmas and beyond!

I like to think of Paul trying to get me to understand as he writes in Philippians this concept... He put aside being God to become my savior.

Here I am trying my best to get to heaven and He just left it behind, all of it, in order to pay my way, lift me up, and bridge the gap.

Talk about a grass roots movement, he became the lowest of the low, took on the worst of the worst, and came out of being given the name that is above all names.

Too many seek to get to the top, but Jesus showed me that I have to seek to get to the bottom, become like a child, and trust Him fully.

Immanuel indeed! God with us... now, show of hands... who is with God?

Awesome post, as usual. I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas, and I pray that you and your family have a blessed New Year as well.

In the prayer room, before church this past Sunday, I was listening to someone pray for someone else. They were praying that this Christmas would be a time of change for their household. That it would be the start of their new year as they reflect on the birth, life, death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. That really stuck out to me. It made me think about how that the day, Christmas, should be a time that we celebrate Christ with us, every single day.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. They mean a lot!

Preacherman - It's been a while since I've come by. I wanted to thank you for stopping by my sporadic ramblings and for your encouraging words. God has blessed me by giving me friends through this medium that lets us reach out over the miles.

I was impressed that despite the lack of accuracy on the details this group of children got the message right -- God with us -- may we be able to take that gift and accept it so that each day people see Christ in us.

God Bless
Charlie

"God with us"! Christ in us! Our lives hidden with Christ in God! If God is for you (and He is)who can be against you?

Can you hear the Godman saying to you "I will never leave you or forsake you, I will go with you go with you all the way.."?

Will I look for Him on a cross? Can I find Him near an empty tomb? Must I look intently into the heavens to see Him? No, He is with me, in me until He comes to make the day last for ever. The night will be desolved by He who is the light of the world, youth will be restored, the curse of sin finally lifted, and the sons of God liberated and glorified.

We must correctly think of Him as "God with us", present tense, not as a history lesson.

His peace,
Royce

That is really something worth contemplating. I have been wrestling with the whole idea of God being one of us - I mean, God is not a man, yet, he is a man. Amazing paradox. Anyway, I need to meditate on this more. Thanks for reminding me of this powerful truth. We have a Saviour and a Lord who understands what it means to be human - because he is human. Wow! How many religions can make that claim? Thank you Jesus! Well, preacherman, have a great new year.
