Do Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God?

Do Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God? Did all three religions come from Abraham and his descendants? The Jews have their prophets, Christians have their prophets and Muslim have their prophet but do they believe in the same God? Each group believes in different messangers but is the message the same? Is the message different? If so how? Is there an over all message in all three of these religions that is the same? Can and will these religions co-exist? Why or why not?

They do only in the idea that (I think) they all believe God to be omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. The real issue is what is the fruit of their worship. In that regard even people of the same religion act very differently. So, in some sense, even people of the same religion appear to be worshiping different Gods. For example, some appear to worship a wrathful deity while others worship a more compassionate and loving one.

I believe that people of all different faiths, if seeking earnestly, can encounter God. I do think there are many parallels between the Abrahamic religions...and my answer would be, though there might be some doctrinal discretions, that it is quite possible the answer might be an overall yes. That God might manifest Himself differently to different people in different cultures because He knows how best to reach them.

Yes, and the ancient Samaritans did too. And members of the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, Episcopal, evangelical, Unitarian, etc. churches do to. The important question is this: Who believes in Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead. That's what separates those who truly know God from those who don't.

Kansas Bob,
Thanks for your comments. You have made me think. I like that. I love your point about even in the same religion worship different Gods. Do we judge how we see the others if we view God a certain way?

Jeff,
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate it. I understand that Muslims see Jesus as a prophet. Just not divine right? How do they think Jesus will return? Will he return with Allah and Muhamad? With Muhamad? By himself? Jeff you have to me to thinking I need to read the Koran. (It is good for people to read books other than their faiths. How can we know if we dont read.)

Jessica M,
Thanks for sharing. I agree that people can encounter God. Tony Campolo shared a story about missionaries who met a tribe who encountered God but just knew him by another name and of course practiced different things but that his how they taught. The tribe had experienced God because they sought Him. Thank you for making me think as well. All of these three religions Jews, Christians, Muslims all believe in one God.

Jenny,
Thanks for your comments. I always appreciate them. Are you saying that the only way to know God is through Jesus Christ?

All three religions you mention will always be fighting eachother. They can and will never peacefully co-exist.

We all worship the same God- Muslims believe in all the Messengers, including Moses and Jesus. We believe he is alive, in the heavens, and will return with the Mahdi (a descendant of Muhammad) to bring justice to the world. We believe all the messengers were only human.

If you read the Qur'an, there are many, many verses where God is urging Muhammad to ask the Christians and Jews of that time to return to the original message that Abraham came with- the message of One God.

Since there is only one God, they worship the same God whether they like it or not. Now their interpretation of God or their relationship with God is another issue altogether.

No, In the inspired Bible we have 3 ages. First there was the time God spoke through the fathers, from Adam through Mount Sinai. The 2nd age was the Mosaic age, from Mt Sinai to the cross. Then the 3rd age also called Christian age or last days. The Jewish age is over although it was the foundation for Christianity. Christianity has the true knowledge of God , the true God is trinity- God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. The Moslems dont believe in these 3 beings making up the one God so our God is not the same, the Jewish was nailed @ the cross n the Jews today are infidel who don't believe in the Deity of Christ who view Him as one who was an imposter

@Joshua - Maybe you can clarify your comment a bit? Do you think that the Jews worshiped a different God in the OT simply because the Trinity had not been revealed to them yet?

"Do Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God?"

Well, it's like this: If you are talking about the God of the Old Testament, Elohim, the Creator God, first named in Genesis 1:1 and Yahweh, the "I am," first named such in Exodus at the burning bush, and Theos, God the Father, in the New Testament, then yes. However, if you include Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the head of the New Testament Church, who is also deity Himself, that is God Himself, as proven in the Gospel of John, then no.

This being said, God wants all to be saved from their sins by
1) believing that Jesus Christ IS the Son of God and died for our sins, 2) repenting of our sins, 3) confessing to others that we believe that Christ IS the Son of God and died for our sins,
4) being immersed in water (baptized) into Jesus, so that the blood of Jesus can forgive us of our sins, and 5) living faithful to God and Jesus, by doing ALL that they have instructed us to do in the New Testament. Then, when this life here on earth is over, we can go to live forever in Heaven with God the Father and Jesus Christ, His Son! Yay!

Kansas Bob has really good points. Sometimes it appears we are worshiping different gods, but maybe different people are seeing different facets of God.
Taking a drawing class gives a very tangible example of how people can all look at the same thing and see something different and from a different point of reference.

I think there are steps being made by Christians to move toward inter faith relationships with Muslims. I am hopeful.

YES... the Christians, the Muslims and Jews do worship the same 'god'.
He is ALSO the same 'god' that the people of all the other 'religions' ( including the atheists) also worship.

I know who he is....Do you know who he is?

A person's true belief , true god, is seen in the way that one lives his life...every day.

What do ALL people of all "religions" desire, defend, fight for, and glorify?
.....the GOD OF FREEDOM
........to be free to do one's own will.....to be free to do one's own rights, one's own religion, one's own lifestyle, one's own happiness

This FREEDOM dictates that it is right to be free to serve and magnify 'oneself' (the XES)
...this god declares that each has the equal right to establish for oneself what is right.

This is the image that ALL glorify...this is the 'god of fortresses'.

This is the 'LIGHT' that President Obama has declared and confessed in Jerusalem to be the will of his 'god'....the 'god' that he said is common to the 3 main "religions".
...and this is the "mark" that all embrace on their foreheads or on their hands.

BUT....NOTE...THAT THIS 'FREEDOM' god ALSO dictates that it is RIGHT to be free to worship ANY god...blasphemously denying the pre-eminence of the One Creator who gave and gives existence...whose identity is defined by His Son Jesus Christ.

Christ said that one is to worship Only the One Creator Father and His Will Alone to serve.
...and this One God said that man will not worship any other 'god' for there is none other.

Soon, Christ, the Son of the One Creator, will return to RULE the earth and man according Only to the Will of the Yahweh Elohim and not according to the "freedom god" that man serves as his first love.
